There are no restrictions on printing "static" QR codes. These are QR codes that do not change based on a field from your mailing list. They are treated just like any other graphical elements such as your logo. But additional restrictions apply to QR which is variable and changes based on a field from your mailing list. We can print two types of variable QR codes.

1. QR codes for the site address

Scanning this QR code will direct you to a specific page or a site. We need the complete site address beginning with "HTTP:" in your mailing list.

2. QR codes for contact information

Static vs. variable QR codes

We can print both a static QR code which is the same QR on all the pieces or a variable QR code that changes and is based on your mailing list. All the codes mentioned above can be either static or variable.

  • Static codes: These are QR's that do not change and are identical on all the pieces. For instance, a code printed on your postcards that takes the recipient to your site or a code that is similar to a business card that supplies your contact info. These codes must be embedded in the artwork; we do not generate these codes.
  • Variable codes: These codes can only be printed on mailers that include variable data or mail merging options, such as mail-merged letters or self-mailers. You can NOT print these codes on normal postcard mailers without the mail merging option. PURLs (personal URLs) is a perfect example of this option. This QR code is unique to each mailer and takes the recipient to a page that is created specifically for the recipient. For instance, a mortgage company mails out letters to different brokers in their office. Each letter can have different contact information for each broker that is signing the letter.

NOTE: We recommend a minimum size of 1" wide by 1" high for your code to ensure an accurate scan. This size is sufficient for a site QR as well as a contact QR with a few fields populated. You may need to use a larger size if you are using a contact QR with all the fields populated. We suggest 1.5" by 1.5" if you are using most or all of the fields in the contact QR. Place a comment about your desired size for the QR in your order.

Specification about the codes we print: Currently we can only print variable QR codes in black ink and they can not include any graphics in them.
